Doorstep donations rise 25 per cent to 560,000

27/06/11

More than 112,000 new regular Direct Debit donations were secured by PFRA members by visiting donors in their homes last year. Almost 560,000 new donors came through doorstep face-to-face in 2010/11 – a 25 per cent increase in the previous year and the highest number of doorstep-recruited donors for any single financial year.

Combined donations for street and doorstep fundraising rose by 16 per cent to 730,269 – the second most successful year ever behind 208/09’s 740,670.

However, the numbers of donors recruited on the street fell slightly by four per cent fall to 170,610 new Direct Debit mandates.

Michael Naidu, PFRA’s chair, says: “These figures are excellent news confirming what fundraisers know – that face-to-face is a tried and trusted, and extremely successful, method of finding new donors. This year’s figures show that once again F2F is more than holding up for charities in these difficult economic times.”

Naidu says the lack of growth in street F2F is probably due to the uncertainty surrounding the Charities Act 2006. New arrangements providing a licensing system for street F2F were expected to have been in place by now. But they have been delayed pending a review that is expected to start later this year.
