PFRA unveils information video on street fundraising

22/08/10

An information video about best practice for street fundraisers is unveiled by the PFRA today.

The video is intended to give a short introduction to best practice for council licensing officers and town centre managers so they know what to expect of fundraisers visiting their areas under the terms of a site management agreement

It has been uploaded to a new best practice section on the PFRA website, which also explains the solicitation statement and the ‘three step’ rule.

Nick Henry, PFRA’s head of standards, says: “The Institute of Fundraising’s Code of Practice on Face-to-Face Activity lays the ground rules for best practice but there is a lot that fundraisers have to do that isn’t specified in the code.”

The solicitation statement – or ‘disclosure’ as fundraisers call it – is a case in point. The Charities Act 2006 requires that fundraisers have to give the solicitation statement – which tells donors how much the fundraising agency is being paid by the charity – when a donor agrees to make a donation.

But Nick Henry adds: “The solicitation statement sounds straightforward, but the rules governing it are quite complex and can often be misinterpreted. That’s why we have gone to some length explaining them in the new best practice section.”

PFRA will enhance the best practice pages with further guidance over the coming months.

Any council official who would like a DVD containing the video should contact PFRA’s head of policy Toby Ganley at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), or call on 020 7401 8452.
