Charities that conduct ‘prospecting’ – collecting contact details of potential donors so they can be asked to give at a later date – began paying a levy to the PFRA for the first time this month [January 2010].
The PFRA’s regulatory functions are funded through a levy of 75p for each donor charities recruit through street and doorstep F2F. However, because prospecting doesn’t recruit any donors – it only obtains contact details – prospecting as fallen outside of PFRA’s levy procedures.
Charities conducting prospecting will now pay a levy based on the number of donors they could expect to recruit had they been fundraising at a site. This has been calculated at £6.75 per day, per site for each site they work at.
